The Captain Shares His Winning Secret

Another win for the Seniors.

Dick's Seniors have won another one and are now 5-0 on the season and remain in first place. Without getting to much into detail, let's just say they won by more than just a little bit against an over matched Cleveland Racquet Club team, mostly dressed in white except for one guy. The Captain was seen opening this can prior to the match. A can of this should be taken on the court for all of future USTA matches.

FIVE SEASONS UPSETS RIVER OAKS 5-0

Pete Gallo's Five Season's 3.5 team started the second round off with a resounding 5-0 win over RO#1. Jeff Roberts continued to give free singles lessons to his opponents with a 6-1,6-0 score, while Norm Rados, at 2nd singles, commandeered a 7-5, 6-1 win. In the doubles games, Mark Shepard and Mark Flash "buffed" their opponents 6-2,6-2. The real winners of the night were Mike Cash and Dennis Gresh winning with a couple of "donuts". And then, a welcoming back match for Mike "weak ankles" Bornhorst and Bill "having a ball" Oatey from the "disabled list" to a champagne win of 6-2,6-2. There was a lot of action on court but afterwards the teams enjoyed refreshments laced with beer and Mount Gay Rum. The chief (El Jefe) hosted a small get together after the match and was given a vote of confidence to continue captaining the team for the rest of the year. El Jefe only allowed those who voted in support of his vote of confidence in the group picture. One member of the team (Dennis Gresh), although voting to continue El Jefe as its leader, did receive two votes to take the reigns and go a different direction. Possibly starting a 4.0 level team with his two supporters accepting the coaching responsibilities for the new "gypsy" team. What do you think? Would you go off on a venture with these supporters?

The "IT" Girls of Summer....

Cheryl and Julie...under the spotlight this week.... The "IT" Girls of Summer were upset 2-3 at Five Seasons Wednesday night. Thank you to our teammates, families, and friends for coming to support us, we appreciate it. Chasing the blues away with the help of the super cooler, music, dancing in the streets (ok that may be a slight exaggeration), and pyramid building among others, The "IT" Girls of Summer tailgated into the wee hours of Thursday morning...and managed to make it back on the courts bright and early (11 is early!!!). Week 5 motto: carpe diem and The "IT" Girls of Summer embrace this motto. Next up: Home vs. North Ridge Building castles in the sky!!!... our talents are limitless...

Blessings from Tennis Heaven

Another night, another win to add to the string. Dick Lancaster aka "tennis god" sent his crew out against Western Reserve's 3.5 adult team and pirated a 4-1 win. Lars Eriksson had the first court singles player offering to "pay him for the lesson." Chuck Buschert took 2nd singles, John Clark and Steve Poe steamrolled on 3rd dubs, Frank Mucklo was blessed to play with "tennis god" and won with Dick Lancaster on 2nd dubs. First dubs with Ron Wacker and Mack Thomas were beset by the devil and lost a tight match. Thanks to Joe Pare for being in the choir.

Five Seasons 4.0 WINS 5-0

John Wong's 4.0 men's team had the brooms out as they swept Fox Creek on Tuesday evening. John Hew coasted 0 and 1 at first singles. Tim Urwin earned a hard fought win at second 6-3, 3-6, 1-0. At first dubs, Wong and D'Avino wore down the opposition in first set tiebreak and sailed to a 7-6, 6-1 win, while at second, Maurer and Gao did the opposite, cruising 6-0 in the first set then struggling to a tiebreak win in set number 2. In a battle of tiebreakers, John Alfes and Scott Stewart came out on top 7-6, 6-7 and 1-0. A great win for the guys who are now 4-2 on the season and will try to keep the brooms out next week when they visit The Tennis Club!

LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE!!

First the Super Seniors, now the Seniors! For the second time within a week, The River Oaks guys defeated the Northridge Super Team, once again taking all three courts. Captain Dick, a last minute injury scratch, sweated more watching than he usually does playing. Frank Mucklo stepped in for Dick and he and Joe Pare outlasted Don Ritter and Roger Flickinger in 7-6, 6-4 fashion on third court. Egon(It's all about the Spiderman shoes) Luengo and Mack Thomas triumphed 6-1, 6-2 over Curt Chandler and Denny Demarco on first. It was all about court two for the sweep and Jay Hansar and Tim Rickard had it all in the third set breaker for a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 win. Tim's consistent serves set up Jay's awesome net play to pull out a 10-7 tiebreak. The guys are now in sole possession of first place and remain undefeated. Next week, home vs. Cleveland Racquet Club. It's all about the shoes
